* * *
as you may have heard, we’re expecting a little weather situation by the name of Irene. i’m not normally one to worry about such things, but i’m still a little shaky after the earthquake earlier this week, so the hurricane seems like something worth taking seriously. to that end, i’m charging all the batteries, have bought an emergency stash of chocolate (and bread), and am watching the news reports diligently.
tonight i’m singing Mozart’s Requiem in the Mostly Mozart festival. sadly, tomorrow’s performance has been pre-emptively cancelled, since the entire transit system will be shut down by Irene and the mayor’s team. when nyc gets shut down, it feels apocalyptic (even if it’s not).
hopefully we won’t lose power, and the storm will be an adventure rather than a beast. my fingers are crossed.
all playlists for the occasion should, of course, begin with “it’s the end of the world as we know it (and i feel fine)”, and all drinks should be served in hurricane glasses.
be safe, y’all. xoxo
