i’m rather fascinated by sibling relationships. they’re such barometers of family dynamics, such a study in how we all learn to find our place within the family unit, as part of and separate from each other. i was going to write a post about the beauty of sisterhood and how it seems like a secret and special club, but to be honest, i’ve seen just as many fractured siblings, too.

there are no guarantees. but for my part, i want to nurture them toward that best sort of sisterhood.

i adore the way they look at each other. i smile when i hear eliza call big sister’s name (she says “em-ma” over and over, particularly when she’s crying and wants comfort). i love that having each other means they have someone to share with (sharing secrets, sharing a room…it all teaches you something). i love both of them together, and i love seeing them as individuals. even as they’re both “my girls”, i hope to always nurture their individual pieces and quirks and affections; i don’t want them to ever feel like they need to “out-do” the other; i want them to always be proud for the other and to offer her the support and adoration that comes best from a sibling.

more than anything, i want these sisters to know that they’ve both got something really special.
…and that i feel like the luckiest mama in the world to have them both.

oh I really love how eliza looked at emma in the 3rd photo! It’s really good that emma has a sister now, sisterhood is really a wonderful and amazing thing! I admitted there were lots of fight, dispute and jealousy with my younger sister when we were young, but now she is my best friend and she will always be. To me, the best thing of sisterhood is we have created lots of our own language, only two of us understand with those secret silly words, i love it when we laugh out loud with our own language but others with no clue :p
