we walk a lot. i mean, we walk a lot. on a typical day i walk at least 3 miles just in the everyday business of being. we walk across the park. we walk to the playground. we walk to church/school. we walk to lessons. we walk to dinner. everything is at our feet in the City, and the paths are clear and easy to navigate. if we lived in the suburbs we’d be in the car all the time, rolling from place to place. in the City, we walk. sure, we could take the subway or the bus (or a cab or a car), but the walking often just makes more sense. with the big stroller, we have to walk. then, regardless of how far our feet have taken us, we’ve still got to walk back.
emma has been begging for a little scooter. before the begging (“oh please, please, please, mom”) started, i saw it in her eyes; the way she would study other friends and strangers riding their little razor scooters, the way she processed this speedy, kid-friendly mode of transport. so this weekend, as a “summer of being 5″ gift, she finally got her own.
she still needs a little more practice, but she’s getting more brave and confident on the thing. she’s eager to ride all the way to the park (as i push the stroller), and all the way to tennis lessons. she’s a kid on wheels and she’s so proud of herself.
