[on our way home from the playground, we always stop by the aspca and greet the cats.]

[there's a tree just in front of the window, and the constant pigeon-traffic makes some of the cats a little crazy.]

[one of emma's classmates brings a bag full of superhero capes, masks and gear to our afterschool gatherings. so awesome.]

[several random things]

~ do you ever find yourself waiting for something to happen, something that will really make things better or change things in a significant way? you know the change is coming, but you’re mired in the day-to-day and have no indication of whether the big changes are coming in weeks, months, or years? and yet….you’re waiting.

~ that’s where i am right now. things are changing (not just in the obvious gestational ways), but i’m caught in a holding pattern.

~ so caught in the hold that despite the fact that i carry at least two notebooks with me at all times, i can’t even make a list!

~ still, i’m staying calm. calm and sleepy.

~ hot tea sweetened with local honey (an attempt to fight the fall allergies), brewed fresh every morning by Bear, is such a nice way to start the day. he packs it into my perfect travel mug just before emma and i set out on our morning walk to school.

~ my perfect travel mug is, sadly, in its final days. it took me years of spills and leaks before i found the right one, and now the search must begin again.

~ that’s probably a metaphor for something bigger.

~ watching the show hoarders right before bed might result in crazy dreams, but it will surely also lead to a productive day of cleaning, purging and organizing tomorrow. and of course, if i don’t get as much finished as i’d like, i can watch another episode to remind myself that it could be much, much worse. (having known a few hoarders in real life, it’s a pretty horrifying thing…)

~ there is a mosquito hiding somewhere in my house right this minute. there are few things in the world i truly hate, but stealthy mosquitoes really might top the list.

~ i saw an old man with the most amazing hair today. dyed a reddish burnt umber hue, it was a frizzy coalescence of two separate comb-overs. the front section started at top and was combed forward into side-swept, forehead-draping fringe. the back section was the real magic; starting at the nape of his neck, the hair was combed up, up, up, loosely and unconvincingly covering an otherwise bald scalp. the hair defied gravity and resembled nothing so much as cotton candy.

~ i admire that man’s dedication to his hair grooming, but on such a rainy day it seems like a hat might have been a simpler solution.

happy tuesday, friends. hope it’s filled with simple solutions, patience, cotton candy, and as much tidy order as your soul desires.

xoxo
