* * *
so, um…yeah. i took a little break. there’s a sharp pain that radiates through my tailbone when i sit at the computer, so i’ve been trying to stay off my bum. this was also our last week of unstructured summer vacation (as evidenced by the fact that there’s at least one thing on the calendar from today through thanksgiving), so i’ve been trying to enjoy the calm before the storm.
it’s been an adventure-filled few weeks, though. three things in particular:
~ i once again had the pleasure of singing in the Mostly Mozart Festival. when i was in high school, soon after i set my sights on becoming a professional singer, someone gave me a giant stack of Opera News magazines. i pored over those archives for months and months, studying the interviews and pictures, reviews and events, and this particular Lincoln Center festival is one that i specifically set my hopes on. i dreamed of setting aside the end of summer for NYC and Mozart and concert halls filled with real music lovers. this is the third year i’ve been a part of this festival, and it’s still a dream come true. Louis LangrĂ©e is one of the most passionate, inspiring conductors i’ve ever worked with, and i left the whole experience with a renewed joy in the process (a kick i really needed). ps: the ny times says we were “splendid”
~ three friends and i were going to dinner this week and ended up in The Cash Cab! i can’t give many details until it airs (probably in the spring), but to answer the most common questions i’ve gotten: (1) no, we had NO idea it was the cash cab! looked just like a regular yellow cab to me! (2) i can’t tell you whether or not we won, but i can pretty much guarantee that i look like a giggling, super-smiling idiot most of the time we’re in the cab. i seriously couldn’t stop smiling. (3) i don’t usually enjoy huge ambush-y surprises, but Cash Cab was a pretty fun one.
~ we had the first official anatomy scan this week, and it looks like this baby is a girl! so excited to pull out all those little shoes and dresses (and buy so many more)…

we’ll be off again next week to drive to indiana. i’m so excited to see the family, but not super-jazzed for the running around it entails. i wish we’d had time/energy/resources for a vacation or at least a weekend getaway this summer; i’m moving this line-item onto the “autumn” to-do list. here’s hoping the time/energy/resources details resolve themselves perfectly.
hope you’re all doing well, enjoying these last few days of the season.
back to “real life” soon…
xoxo
