[notes from saturday]

she started the day with a request to be made into a robot. she built this “robot hat” herself.

we went to a four-year-old’s birthday party. usually i dread these things, but there were good grown-up friends for me to goof around with, and there were even handsome men-folk there (including my very own husband), so this one was fun… well, it was fun except for some horrible upper east side mother who reprimanded my kid when we got there (em climbed up to the art table to start drawing, using the supplies on the table, and the upper east side mom started shrieking “stop! stop! that’s my child’s ART” at emma; it was stupidly dramatic). my mama-bear instincts got really really riled when my emma got tears in her eyes over the situation, but we got back on track with the help of a really good fellow-mama-bear (thanks jen). i’m just saying: leave my kid alone with your snotty confidence-flattening manner. she’s a sweet, sensitive girl, and i love her so.

at the party she made a mask and cape, which became her uniform for the rest of the day. she also made a placemat and got a red balloon.

on our walk home, we bought a copy of “fox in socks” for $1.

we ran into three great neighbors in the lobby when we got back, and i got to take some pretty pictures of pretty babies. i love our building (and my new 60mm lens).

we’ve finally finished alice in wonderland and through the looking glass, so tonight’s bedtime was a little bit of the wizard of oz. when i tucked her in and left the room, she was “reading” a book about sock monkeys to her sock monkey, asking him first “what’s your favorite part of the story?”

as for me: spending time, being in the moment, cuddling and coloring and loving… it’s all my favorite part.
