[buttercup bakery]

she really wanted to share her cupcake, but i said “no thanks”. i didn’t want to tell her (for fear of over-influencing her opinions) that i couldn’t take a bite of that cupcake because i cannot, will not, eat blue foods.

it’s just one of many crazy quirks i’ve had for years. in my defense, i don’t think there are foods that are naturally blue…not even blueberries.

[this story is a little lame, and very random]

earlier in the afternoon, we stopped at a playground in the park. after we’d been there for about 20 minutes, matt damon and his family showed up. Bear and i did our best new york-y “aloof no eye-contact-making, who-cares-who-you-are” thing, but matt damon stared at us the whole time he was there. you think i’m kidding, but i’m not. he was noticeably staring. we have been speculating for days as to why (i had my camera tucked away even before he arrived, so i know i wasn’t looking like a paparazzi); it was so…odd. matt and i exchanged a few words as they were leaving (he was looking for a yellow shovel in the sandbox, and i found it…i almost didn’t point it out to him, i was so determined not to make eye-contact), but he didn’t take the opportunity to explain the whole staring thing.

[thinking about]

~ getting rid of our landline phone. it was broken for two days last week, and we didn’t miss it at all. i’m so irrationally attached to the 212- area code on that line (it’s so old new york!) that i’ve actually thought about just moving the number to another cell phone.

~ starting up some casual photography classes to teach other moms how to get the most enjoyment from their cameras/best pictures of their kids. i’m thinking of something like a book club (evening meetings, beverages and snacks, sharing opinions, questions and ideas), discussing pictures instead of literature. maybe.

~ the sounds in our house after midnight: one snoring man, one snoring cat, another cat making those unfortunate slurping sounds of self-grooming. the four-year-old is grinding her teeth while she dreams. my back cracks every time i move (which is often, because my hip is cranky; i sound like i’m 95 years old). it’s our late-night percussion, and it’s oddly soothing.
