just a random list. i was thinking about a company i used to work for that was enamored with their made-up inter-company term “Glocal”. the term was a combination of ‘global’ (this was a very large international company) and ‘local’, and we were required to use it as often as possible within presentations and literature. we were supposed to take it very seriously, but even though i managed to fit it into my work and output quite often, it always made me laugh; i just couldn’t use a made-up word like “Glocal” with any amount of sincerity.

there are some things i miss about “day jobbing” (good money, free office supplies, etc.), but i never did quite fit there. i’m very grateful for my freelance (corporate jargon-free, no pants-suits required) life.

As you know, being a director of various non-profit organizations for many years, I have to write a lot of grant requests. The word that was finally banned because it had been completely overused and ‘run into the ground’ was “enabled”. That word became a complete turn-off to the people reading the grant requests and we knew better than to use it.

If you don’t like quiver, then what do you use to carry your arrows?

I LOVE the word clusterf**k! One of my faves. I forget to use it (or maybe have no opportunity to…) but I love to hear it used!!
