. . .

i think i’ve blogged these giant numbers before. they’re sculptures by Robert Indiana (creator of the LOVE statue, which i’m admittedly a bit obsessed with), in the sculpture garden of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. it’s never clear to me whether or not we’re *allowed* to climb on the numbers (or the LOVE, for that matter), but in terms of pure joy, i think this is the best way to experience this particular art. (why just watch from the ground when you can get in and climb around, you know?)

something about these shots compelled me toward vintage hues and late-summer flare, faded and existing in the realm of “sweet memory” even as they were happening. em was having a blast pretending to take pictures of me as i was taking them of her, and jumping into each number was a little adventure of its own. this has become one of our Indianapolis rituals (three times can count as official ritual, right?): hopping in the car with Lola Sonia (bear’s mom, who seems content just to stand back and watch the crazy photo process unfold) and starting the day with the LOVE and NUMBERS.

giant numbers in the sculpture garden: one more cool thing i never even knew existed in Indiana until i moved away (and probably wouldn’t have cared about before i was a photographer).

this is completely my favorite place on earth. it’s officially my destination for next summer – a road trip to take pictures in the big numbers, that last picture screams 10th birthday portrait for Sam :)

love her with her little camera, each and every one is adorable
