[status update]

rehearsal today, singing Haydn’s Creation at the Mostly Mozart Festival this weekend. mad scramble to find backup childcare for not just my kid, but the neighbor as well. cleaning the house for visitors the next two nights. soothing a fear of scary hail-storms + some serious bad dreams with the following mommy-tools: back rubs, lemonade, and license to watch some old episodes of Barney. taking her to the last tap & ballet lessons of the semester, happy to see her so wonder-filled after every class. hosting an unexpected pool-party-playdate for 10 kids; wondering how i ended up accidentally being a professional babysitter. looking at the calendar, making a new plan. thinking about autumn footwear, making a note to stop at Boot City when we’re back home in indiana. finishing up some chick lit, pondering which book to dive into next. realizing that if you say “chick lit” out loud, it sounds just like “chicklet” and makes me crave some sugar-y chewing gum. thinking this week’s is an all-star issue of the new yorker, with pieces by david sedaris and dave eggers. making long-distance happy-lists with a good friend (“dragonflies! dandelions! bumblebees – because they’re striped and kind of furry!”), realizing i’ve lost track of my exhaustion, ennui, and grievances and been sidetracked by laughter. counting my blessings and hugging my family.
