[Thirty Things in Thirty Days, 7/30: life is a bowl of cherries]

. . .

it’s been the sweet treat of our summer, buying a pound or two of cherries at the fruit stand, dropping them into a favorite crystal bowl, then watching the bowl become empty before the day is over.

decadence.

thinking it might be better to slow down and ration a bit, i bought two lbs the other day, and put one in the fridge “for later”. sadly, those extra cherries are still in the fridge, where i just know they’ve become over-ripe and a few days past bliss.

lessons learned:
~ put it all in the big fancy bowl. they’re there to be enjoyed! otherwise, you’ll forget about it and feel terribly guilty about the whole thing…
~ one should always have fruit-dessert recipes on hand. there’s not enough cherries there for a pie, but i’m thinking a small batch of cobbler or some sort of tart might work.
~ eating two lbs of cherries in one sitting would probably have been much more healthy than making a mini-cobbler, no matter how good it turns out…

reminder to self:
~ those three pints of strawberries in the fridge are begging to be enjoyed today, too. after all, it’s summertime and the livin’ is (supposed to be) easy…
