monday morning list [this one's super-random]:

~ i honest-to-goodness love Calvin Borel, and he pulled out an amazing upset in the Derby this weekend. every derby day seems to begin and end with tears for me, but maybe only my mom understands…memories of horses, horsemen, old friends, people we’ve lost, races we’ve bet (“when in doubt, one- two buckle my shoe”); it would take ages to explain, but Derby Day will always be the day i miss Beav (my birth-dad) the most.

~ as a general rule, i think you should read my mom’s blog.

~ pending deadlines have a way of kicking you into gear…
sometimes, though, i feel like i’m so behind i could never hope to catch up.

~ i bought some tide-me-over clothes. this is the spring of button down linen shirts, casual skirts and brightly colored shoes.

~ $20 for an umbrella at Target? really? i bought a family set of new ones because i had to, but i’m still not a fan of umbrellas in general…i’d rather wear a hat, pink wellies, and a raincoat. unfortunately both my wellies and my raincoat are hole-y, dead and buried, and i spent all the discretionary shopping fund on umbrellas…

~ wait! what i’d really like is to bring back those clear plastic rain bonnets women like my Aunt Kitty wear. they fold into a tiny little ball for your purse, and they’ll keep your hair tidy and dry while you walk in the rain. why don’t people wear those any more? i’d buy one, but then i’m afraid i’d start wearing curlers in the mornings and using toxic amounts of hairspray to “set” it….

~ i think Lady Madonna is one of the most charming Beatles songs, and really don’t mind that it’s been stuck in my head for two days.

~ if we won the lottery tomorrow i’d buy a new piano.
and a new camera.
and an entire case of girl scout cookies.

~ i really really really think chelsea clinton (via her wedding planners; are you googling, wedding planners? here! here!) should hire me to sing at her wedding. i’m (literally) a pro at singing weddings, and i promise not to mess with the secret service people or anything…
