hello monday. the weekend was lovely, filled with bike rides downtown, cupcakes & barbecue ribs, a crazy meeting with my new headshot photographer, and a special mass with The Cardinal celebrating the one-year anniversary of the pope’s ny visit. i should say, actually, the weekend days were fabulous. late saturday, emma got some mysterious high fever that lasted most of the night but magically disappeared in the daylight. then last night….well, you know how sometimes you ask “how” my Crohn’s is doing, and i kind of evade the subject? well i’ll tell you, dear internet: last night it was BAD. up all night, sicky painful yuck. but you know…even though it disrupted my sleep and caused some dramatic hours, it was pretty much over by morning. today’s a fresh new day, and it’s a-ok.

we’re staying in, hiding out from the rain and the intestinal ick by building forts with blankets, having dance parties, and letting all the stuffed animals gorge themselves on too much (imaginary) ice cream. there’s laundry to be done, and it’s with great sadness and a very spoiled tone that i have to report that we have to do our OWN laundry this time. the valet in our building (drop it off, pick it up the next day, pay $1/lb, be happy) closed, and our dirty laundry is at such critical crankyness-inducing mass that i don’t have time to find a new laundry valet today. so sorting and folding and repeatedly moving things across the laundry room from washer-to-dryer are in my immediate future. as is a cup of tea. and maybe some baking from my new Magnolia cookbook.

i’m cutting out my dear old friend diet coke for a while, adding in white tea (which my crazy photographer insists will save my life) and some other magic potions. going back to the gym. starting to move things forward, make things happen, blah blah, etc. yeah, it’s a new day filled with promise and promises….we’ll see what (if anything) comes of it all.

oh! if you haven’t seen it already, watch this. i realize i’m a total dork, but i cry every time i watch it (and i’ve been watching it all day).
