“mom, need hat wif scarf. RED hat-scarf. too cold, mom!”
(mom says: “em, do you want a sweater?” em replies: “NO, no sweater! too hot…..”)

her latest art-fascination is with gluesticks. specifically, it’s with forcing me (relatively against my will) to trace her hand and cut it out so she can glue the hand-outline to a piece of paper and “make TurkeyTown”… we do this about 5,000 times a day. and PLEASE do not suggest that she should color the hand-turkeys! “it’s a GWUE TurkeyTown, NOT Cwayon!”
also note: PLEASE do not accidentally call her Princess. She is “NOT Pwincess!!” She’s “Emma A-Noweea”.
[photographer's note/lament: this picture is a good example of why shooting at f/1.4 isn't always the best idea for a portrait. LOVE the in-focus eye, but the out-of-focus one is makin' me a little nutsy. so after fussing with it for a few minutes and nearly deleting, i remembered!! it's The Year of the Snapshot! and this picture makes me happy despite it's flaws! so i closed photoshop and decided to post this set straight out of camera. scary + liberating + nobody cares but me!]

i love love love your f1.4 pics. don’t go changing your f stop because of the occasional out of focus eyeball!! the clarity and light are like being right there, being close enough to walk into your kitchen and grab a soda from the fridge and settle down on the red sofa to talk about people we strongly dislike (ok HATE) together
it’s the year of the awesome snapshot. the blurry eyeball stays!
