random list: 02.03.09
~ there are 29 things on my to-do list today. master of productivity that i am, i’ve already gotten to one line-item (thaw chicken for dinner). awesome.
~ yesterday was an optimistically “winter may not swallow you whole after all” sunny and warm day. today it’s snowing, which would be just fine if it turned into pretty white ground-covering suitable for snow angels instead of super-dirt-sidewalk-slush. (yes, i just blogged about the weather. again, awesome!)
~ my wrist is absolutely killing me! i was thinking it was carpal tunnel (and have been rocking out with that wrist brace i stole from mom several years ago), but further internet research points to De Quervains Tenosynovitis. apparently my sunday after-mass habit of walking a mile home carrying 30 lbs. of groceries might have some unanticipated ergonomic issues… urgh. on the bright side, it’s kind of fun and silly to say i failed The Finkelstein Maneuver.
~ i’m going to one of those sign-up/fundraising meetings this weekend to learn more about running a half-marathon this summer in Napa Valley. i wonder if i could really run that far without keeling over…. (i’ve never run more than two miles without getting that side-piercing pain and asthmatic lungs and the feeling of imminent death. it’s nice to have a goal, though, right?!)
~ i also set up an appointment with an acupuncturist and setting the dates today to get my teeth fixed (i promise i was not overly-swayed by the really good hot tea in the cosmetic dentist’s waiting room, nor the fact that his wife is a classical singer, or the long list of celebrity clients…but somehow it was all relaxing and exciting enough that it makes sense to put down a major portion of our net worth on dental work)… i may be temporarily stuck in this winter wonderland of BLAHness, but i’m hoping all the life-improving efforts will pay off in the end.
~ barring that, i have the comfort of the new waffle maker to play with, a really good recipe for homemade mac & cheese (in case of full on comfort-food emergency), and a fridge full of diet coke.
~ yesterday i decided to send the laundry “out” to be done. this is a very new york-y thing to do (you just drop it off downstairs with the cleaner, and it comes back folded and clean within 24 hours), and i had somehow gotten out of the habit when we moved to this building (since we have a laundry room….which seems convenient but for the fact that i never have enough money on our prepay-card, i hate dealing with my underthings in front of neighbors while i’m switching the loads/folding, and it’s a pain in the arse to get everything up and downstairs). so anyway, i sent it down, mentally prepared to pay a regrettable amount (just this once!) for the luxury….but!!! one month’s bagfull of laundry, weighed and charged by the pound = only $22. and i literally feel like there’s a load off my shoulders. i’ll still wash the sheets and towels by myself since, (a) they’re heavy and cost more to send out, and (b) they’re super-easy to wash and fold myself, but other than that, i think i’ve just created a new line-item on the monthly budget: laundry service.

[her project yesterday morning; arranging every shoe she could find into this fancy design, then attempting to wear each shoe through the course of the day. sadly, only three pairs of these shoes even fit anymore...]

Of course you know…I love Miss Em’s abilities to organize. So outta the box but well within boundaries. I’ll have to ask you her shoe size before next year…the girl can’t go without fashionable footwear!

The best part of that last photo – she’s barefoot. Love it.
