welcome, President Obama.
i am hopeful and humble and filled with joy today.
i believe in you, as a powerful, sincere, intelligent and truly right-intentioned man, and i am committed to following through on this amazing energy with action, patience, and a sincere pride in the Good of America and everything it truly means to be American.
i am proud that Emma Magnolia will think “of course a black person can be president. why wouldn’t they be?”, and i am proud to look forward (together with so many of my friends, family, and countrymen) at this moment with profound optimism.
we are putting a lot on your shoulders, Mr. President.
i believe you can do it, and i believe we can all make a difference.

I’ve noticed an attitude already of “Of course…” which makes my heart so light. The same thoughts ran through my head as I sat with my tiny girls, watching Obama being sworn in this morning, that they are too young to know WHY it’s so important that a black man become President today, and how cool it is that the world they grow up in won’t even question it, which is as it should be (should have always been).
